Music is an important part of our corporate worship here at Westside Baptist Church. We want our music to glorify our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ!
Westside Baptist Church stands without apology for conserving Biblical principles applied to music and worship. We believe music apart from lyrics can have a distinctively fleshly or spiritual impact upon the listener. While we choose music that is neither fleshly nor worldly, we also strive to use music that is both spiritually alive and doctrinally rich. We are doing our best to engage the congregation each week as we come together to worship the Lord.
Above all our music program is a sacrifice of praise (Heb 13:15) to the Lord. We must understand not only what the Bible specifically states about worship and praise, but also that we discern other Scriptural principles affecting the music ministry. Our goal is not to simply provide exciting special music, or to “give a good show” each Sunday. We have a much higher calling! We are leading our congregation in the important activity of praise. This is an activity which must be accomplished in the Spirit and through the power of prayer.
Our music program is based on participation, not on a passive spectator mentality. The most important thing we can do is to encourage our people to sing “with the spirit and with the understanding also” (I Cor. 14:15). Because this is true we have a variety ways members can participate in the music ministry. We encourage every member of WBC to consider taking part in one of these groups as God has given you the talents.
