Am I Alone?

As we consider the Lord’s work and the sacrifices that are necessary to see it go forward, we begin to feel sorry for ourselves and if we aren’t careful we can even develop a “Martyr’s Complex”. All too often a Christian feels that they are “the only one” who is really standing up for what is right and that is just simply not the case most of the time. There are Christians standing up for the Lord all over this World and a lot of the time there are other Christians a lot closer than you think or know.

Remember the account of Elijah in I Kings 17 – 19. Even this prophet struggled with the same thoughts and feelings that we do today.

- I Kings 19:14 And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

What was the Lord’s response to this attitude? It was two-fold.

1. The Lord replaces Elijah with Elisha a man that had a right attitude and vision of serving Him.

I Ki 19:16b – and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.

2. The Lord basically tells Elijah that he isn’t even close to being the last one.

I Ki 19:18 - Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

Let this be a lesson to us as we consider the attitude with which we serve the Lord and the attitude with which we view our commitments to the Lord.

A Godly Leader

As you guys know we went to the Student Leadership Conference last week at Southland Christian Camp. The week was amazing and the teaching/preaching sessions were so helpful that I decided to share a little bit of the blessing with you all.

Here are a few nuggets from the Conference.

“To make a difference you have to be different! Mt 5:13-16

The Lord calls us to be two things in these verses-

1. Salt

- Characteristics of Salt

a) Adds Wonderful Flavor

b) Preservative

c) Cleansing Agent

2. Light

- Characteristics of Light

a) Dispels Darkness

b) Guides to the safe path

What does it mean to be different?

Different =

– not the same

– Distinct

– Unlike most others

“The Average is good for Nothing”

“Do others want what you have because of the Difference?”

You can’t change the Character of something by adding more of the same

Leadership is

- Providing Direction or Guidance

- Someone who makes things happen

- The ability to influence someone in a direction you think is important

“Everyone is a leader because we all influence someone!”

Kidnapped Bears

This Saturday we are going to try out a Brand New activity called “Kidnapped Bears”. the basic idea of the game is similar to the picture scavenger hunt but with a few new twists one of which is that each group will have to go and find a specially marked bear to take with them and have in all the pictures. Another twist is that this scavenger hunt will be a race to the finish! The teams will receive big bonus points based on their order of arrival after completing ALL the tasks. be ready for fast paced fun and a lot of crazy tasks to complete. One last thing. There is a nice prize for the winning team and I am not talking about a piece of candy! the team that wins will (Not have to bring the $1.50 for the next 3 activities)

See you Saturday @6:00 p.m. in the Teen Room! Be sure to bring your Bible and $1.50 and try to bring a friend.

What Is Your Life?

Life is a wonderful gift. You can only live each moment once. You cannot store up your minutes or rewind your minutes to relive in a better way. It is incumbent on each of us as Christians to make the most of our lives. Every time that I preach a funeral it makes me cognizant of the brevity of time. It challenges me to number my days to treasure up the days that God has given me to spend and invest for HIM. I reflect on the thought that my life is dead and hidden in Christ. Everything I do is done in faith for Him Who saved me by HIS grace. All summed up it is best said as… “Only one life t’will soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last!”
